End of Year Review

One word to describe the year...
Chaotic

What was the most newsworthy event this year?
Covid-19, quarantine & shutdown, events canceled, flights canceled, wildfires, earthquakes, protests, political rallies, shedding light on systemic racism, a successful SpaceX mission launching two astronauts into space, a monumental United States presidential election... this year at it all.

What was your favorite place you visited this year?
Although traveling was quite limited, I was still able to take a solo road trip to Moab, a favorite travel spot of mine that is familiar and close to home. It was the perfect place to spend quality time hiking, exploring and sorting out my thoughts.

What's something that you had never done before or learned to do this year?
I attended my first ever Fashion Show in Park City with a friend of mine. It was the most luxurious and boujee Sunday afternoon of my life.

What made you laugh this year?
Virtual late night zoom calls with friends and family and playing games and watching movies with my husband. In all honesty, my love language is quality time so I loved and appreciated the moments of being able to connect with people that I love.

What was the best memory you made this year?
My Dad has held onto his dream car, a 1970 Ford Mustang, for years and and this year was the first time that I finally put myself in the driver seat. I learned how to drive stick shift back in high school so I was already well prepared. The car has had a few issues with brakes in the past so it took a while for the opportunity to come up, but when it did I jumped at it! My husband got in the back seat and recorded the whole process for me. Once we were on the road, my Dad opened up the center compartment and found an old cassette tape labeled Dad's Hits that I made for him when I was about 7 or 8 years old. We chuckled at the old treasure as our eyes welled a little with tears. It's pretty clear to see where a bit of my sentimental side comes from.

Name an achievement that you're proud of for the year!
I set out at the beginning of the year to accomplish 100 different hikes... but then the pandemic happened. I physically and mentally did as many as I could handle. I made it to 56 which I still believe is quite the accomplishment. I am proud of myself for what I was able to do. I'll pick up my goal in the spring and continue to explore new paths and beautiful new trails, but I reached a point where it was time to put away my hiking boots and focus on other goals.

What's the best piece of advice you've been given this year?
If you need to work out a problem with somebody, but you're not sure how to start or what to say... then lead with that. It's okay to not have everything eloquently thought out sometimes. It's better to not delay important conversations. Be honest, start talking and that'll help you sort things out along the way.
