My Traveling Diaries | 2017 | Cascade Lake, Idaho, USA

When your summer consists of combining a full time job, building a home, birthday parties, weekend road trips and taking on 3 weddings as a bridesmaid... I'm ready for winter hibernation. Amongst all the busy schedules and late nights, we managed to find a weekend where we could spend some time with family out in Idaho near Cascade Lake. I've traveled through and to Idaho multiple times growing up, but this place was even better than I expected...

We started the weekend by waking up to a gorgeous house with breathtaking views of the mountains encompassing the lake. The water was glassy and calm, only rippling soft waves every few minutes. Our family is big into wake surfing so we were excited to get out on the boat for a few days and surf until our legs gave out. Paddle boards were tied to the dock, which I took out a few times to breathe in the scenery and sunshine. It's always nice to spend time with family, if we weren't surfing, we were either playing games, watching movies, or joking and laughing together.

We decided to treat ourselves to a few dinners out in the town called McCall. We went to My Father's Place for delicious burgers and fries as well as The Pancake House for breakfast. McCall is like a combined tiny lake/ski town with a ski resort nearby as well as a marina for perfect beachside sunsets. We walked around downtown and enjoyed the night together.

Day after day, we would head out on the lake together and surf for hours. We decided to treat ourselves to some relaxation at the Gold Fork Hot Springs over in Donnelly, Idaho. A quaint little oasis in the middle of a mountain. There were multiple hot springs with varying temperatures and lawn chairs and umbrellas to take a nap under the summer heat. When I saw a giant chess set, I had to convince my brother in law to play with me.

These weekends are the best kinds of weekends. No plans, no itinerary, the only thing that really matters is that we're together as a family. This winter we might have to go ski the slopes when the mountains are covered in snow, but something tells me that we'll have to come back again.

Thanks for Reading!
Love, Nick
